# Rate limits

> Published limits, as minimums

See [Rate limits & retries](/guides/rate-limits-and-retries) for how to
handle `429` and back off. This page is the policy: the numbers below are
published as minimums Workchats guarantees, not a target to design toward
exactly — actual enforcement can occasionally allow a bit more, but never
less.

| Messages per installation | 5/s sustained, bursts of 20 |
| Messages per destination (same user, group or channel) | 1/s sustained, bursts of 5 |
| List endpoints (`GET /v1/users`, `GET /v1/conversations`, `GET /v1/conversations/{conversation_id}/messages`) | 20/min |
| Single reads (`GET /v1/users/{id}`, `GET /v1/users/lookup`, `GET /v1/auth/test`, `GET /v1/conversations/{id}`, `GET /v1/conversations/{conversation_id}/files/{id}`) | 100/min |
| Edit, delete (`PATCH` / `DELETE /v1/messages/{id}`) | 60/min |
| `POST /oauth/token`, `POST /oauth/revoke` | 20/min per App |

Every limit answers `429 rate_limited` with a `Retry-After` header, in
seconds, when exceeded.
